TRAVEL TO OAXACA, MEXICO
Mexico is a fascinating place to me because of how diverse the country is. You can have the bluest, clearest water in the west, desert in the north, mountains in the south and a bustling city right in the middle. In short, if you want an adventure - go visit Mexico.
This time, I’m at Oaxaca (Wah-Hah-Kah) for Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). One of the most important holiday for Mexicans.
Oaxaca is a magical place that is pretty much a living museum.
Walking along the streets, you will find interesting things that will grab your attention. Oaxaca also has multiple UNESCO World-Heritage sites which is pretty impressive.
It’s very colorful.
A day trip to the mountains to see some breath taking views.
The ride itself was a cool experience. A lot of the roads are unfinished — a mix of pavement and gravel paths.
Hierve el agua is a waterfall appearance is actually given by calcium carbonate deposits that have accumulated over thousands of years. Hierve el Agua was also a sacred spot for the ancient Zapotecs and the source of an ancient irrigation system.
Off to see a demonstration of how Zapotec Rugs are made. The natural dyes that they use are from small insects. This method has been used since Pre-Columbian times.
Everything is all hand-made.
An average Zapotec rug approximately takes 3-month to complete.
I can’t wait to come back here and experience this place again. Oaxaca will bring out the artist in you. As I mentioned, this place is a living museum. Plus the food here is fresh and full of flavor.
